About Velinor

We have sat
in your seat.

Velinor was built by operators who have governed technology under pressure. Boards are being asked to govern AI they did not commission, with tools they did not buy, on timelines they did not set. We exist so that the questions arrive with answers attached.

Why Velinor

AI governance has a board-level credibility problem.

The technical literature is too technical. The vendor literature is too self-serving. Most boards are left to govern AI by reading press cuttings and trusting the team that built it. Velinor was founded to give directors a different starting point: a published, evidence-based framework, written in their language, calibrated against real failures.

Leadership

Founder & CEO

James A. Lang

James is the founder of Velinor and the UK's leading Fractional Chief AI Officer. He is the author of the AI Blindspot Framework — the 48-blindspot taxonomy that underpins every Velinor engagement and the AIBlindspot intelligence service.

A former British Army officer with more than 20 years in the Royal Signals, James spent his military career at the intersection of communications, intelligence, and decision support — operating environments where bad data is not a quarterly inconvenience but a same-day problem. He left the Army to build and exit a technology business, and now applies the same operator's discipline to the governance of AI inside boards, government departments, and regulated enterprises.

He writes the Velinor AI Leadership briefing, sits on AI governance panels in the UK and internationally, and is the public face of the AI Blindspot Framework.

Co-founder & CTO

Ben Brand

Ben is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Velinor. He leads the build of the platform that powers the AI Blindspot Framework — the OSINT ingestion pipeline, the classification engine, and the published Risk Index that ranks where AI is failing across sector, lifecycle stage, and category.

A former British Army intelligence analyst, Ben spent his service in technical intelligence and cyber threat analysis, including work for the Ministry of Defence. He brings that pattern-recognition discipline to Velinor's data pipeline, where the job is not to collect more cases but to surface the ones that matter to a director by Friday.
